MESSAGE FROM CHIEF AMON

Vision Statement

I envision the Edgewood Fire/EMS as providing fire suppression, emergency medical service, rescue, fire prevention and public education to the people of Edgewood, Kentucky, with the most versatile equipment available, using the latest advancements in technology and at the most reasonable cost. We would provide these services with members trained in the latest techniques and equipped with the best possible protective equipment and policies to ensure the closest approximation of a hazard-free environment.

The Edgewood Fire/EMS would look out for members personal and their family’s well-being. Where opportunities present themselves, we would help prepare our members to succeed. Where family needs become an issue, we would counsel and be understanding. Where social opportunities present themselves, we would participate with zeal.

We will allow our members to communicate freely, without prejudice or reprimand, to convey their feelings, problems and concerns. We will listen with intent and empathy and treat each other with respect and how we would want to be treated.

We would never be accused of not taking advantage of opportunities to improve ourselves, our organization and our community. We would always work together in harmony and constantly maintain open and effective communication, both inside and outside of the department.

The Edgewood Fire/EMS would always continue to strive for development of our members so that the latest, most innovative and effective management techniques were practiced. We shall nurture and embrace the needs of our members while increasing their knowledge, respect and self-worth. We will strive to motivate each member and create a positive and proactive learning environment to set up each member for success. We would all regard change as an opportunity for greater things for members and customers.

We would continually obtain the latest and best training tools and instructor education to ensure a competent human resource development system. The city would provide sufficient resources to equip our people with the best apparatus and equipment that money can buy.

The Edgewood Fire/EMS would consist of a combined paid/volunteer force of well-trained and highly motivated individuals working to meet the common goals of the city, Edgewood Fire/EMS and individuals. Resources would be focused to develop and maintain a high level of quality and readiness to perform the duties of the agency when called on. Thirty-five to forty active volunteers, with an active waiting list for membership, would work closely with the current complement of paid personnel.

The Edgewood Fire/EMS would play a major role in the development of the Fire/EMS delivery system within the Northern Kentucky area and beyond, by participating in associations, advisory boards, joint operations and training. We would embark on widespread networking, using existing systems inside and outside of the fire service organizations.

The Edgewood Fire/EMS, through it’s planning committee, would develop short term, mid-range and long term plans, including contingency plans and inform all members as well as the city of these plans so that they may succeed.

Regardless of the people involved, time of day or extenuating circumstance, we would do unto others as we would have done to us. The Edgewood Fire/EMS would truly be an organization driven by common values and not rules or the threat of disciplinary action.

This is my vision for the Edgewood Fire/EMS.
